Plans for a new power generating plant are in the works in Western Kentucky.
Louisville Gas and Electric along with Kentucky Utilities Energy announced they plan to build new gas-powered generating stations. This will create 250 construction jobs and 40 permanent jobs in Muhlenberg County.
LG&E and KU Energy Spokesperson, Chris Whelan, says due to new EPA standards, the company plans to tear down its current coal-powered facility in Muhlenberg County. They will build a new facility in that location that is powered by natural gas.
In addition to this, Whelan says, the company will build a solar-powered facility at one of it's existing locations, but they have not decided where that facility will be built.
Construction on the new generating plants is set to get underway by 2015 and finish in 2018.
