Former U.S. soldier pleads not guilty to plot to kill federal agent

A former U.S. Soldier has pleaded not guilty to charges that he agreed to help supposed Colombian drug traffickers kill a federal agent and an informant for $800,000.

Joseph Hunter, who's nicknamed Rambo, entered the plea Saturday during a brief appearance at a federal courthouse in New York.

Hunter was extradited from Thailand on Friday.

A NBC military background check shows Hunter enlisted in the army in 1983 in Owensboro and served until 2004.

Authorities in Owensboro, who initially confirmed to us that Hunter was arrested for disorderly conduct in 2008, now say because of an age discrepancy, they can't be for certain it's the same guy.

We spoke with several veteran leaders around Owensboro about Hunter, and all said that they did not know Hunter and he was not a member of any post.
