After numerous changes, council set to vote on downtown hotel

Posted: Updated:

After numerous changes, and postponements, Evansville City Council members are set to vote on the Evansville hotel Monday night.

Officials say the $71.3 million project will now be funded by four different sources.

The Evansville County Commission has committed and approved $3.5 million. The city will be responsible for $20 million, which still has to be approved by city council.

Private investors have come forward, led by Bob Jones of Old National Bank, and pledged between $13 million and $15 million.

That means developer HCW is left to pay between $32.8 million and $34.8 million.

Last week, Councilman John Friend said this new financing plan that includes more private investment is one that might not ever come around again.

He says he believes most, if not all, of the council will now vote yes.

The meeting is set to start at 5:00 Monday night at the Civic Center. 14 News will be there and give you the most up to date information on air and online.
