The Diocese of Evansville says no churches will close as part of its plan to merge parishes.
The Diocese made the announcement on Friday that 24 parishes across 12 counties will merge into 10 parishes over a 3 year period. This starts July 2014.
Spokesperson Tim Lilley says the plan is reinvigorate Catholics and create a more focused faith community.
The plan also involves schools.
Father Alex Zenthoefer, of Christ the King and Holy Spirit, says details of the merger will be up to the churches involved.
"The pastors will determine how best to utilize the resources within his newly configured parish," said Bishop Charles Thompson. "They will have one parish council, one finance council, one staff. Their ministries and their services will become shared as one ministry, one service."
The Bishop says the mergers may affect some mass times and schedules.
The mergers are set to be completed by July 2016.
