Names released in deadly wreck involving motorcycle

One person has been killed in an accident between a car and motorcycle in Vanderburgh County.

It happened around Five Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 41 at Inglefield.

Deputies say when they arrived on scene they found a motorcycle stuck in the hood of a car just south of the intersection in the south bound lane.

The driver of the car, 55-year-old Jacob Deom, told deputies he was following 47-year-old Kenneth Pederson home from work and fell asleep at the wheel. Deom said he woke up when he struck the back of Pederson's motorcycle.

Pederson was thrown several feet from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deom was taken to Deaconess Hospital for a blood alcohol test, but the Sheriff's Office says neither drugs nor alcohol appears to be a factor.

The crash is still under investigation.

The southbound lanes of Highway 41 were shut down between Baseline and Inglefield while authorities worked the scene, but the road has since reopened.
