Mayor's office retracts announcement on former River House Hotel

Posted: Updated:

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke's Office has retracted the announcement on the old River House Hotel development agreement that was sent out on Sunday morning.

In a Tweet, the mayor's office says the city was mis-informed about the status of the deal and officially retracts the statement.

This comes after the owner of the building, George Yerolemou, tells 14 News that the information released Sunday morning was not correct.

Earlier Sunday, the City of Evansville announced that Cincinnati-based Miller-Valentine Group entered into a purchase agreement to acquire the former River House Hotel. They say it was a $11.5 million plan to convert the property into 65 affordable, high-quality senior housing units.

Yerolemou says he did negotiate with the Miller-Valentine Group, but no purchase agreement was made.

He says his plans are to go forward with a hotel at that location and there are no plans to make senior housing units.

Hear more from Yerolemou tonight on 14 News at 10.
