Dozens more abandoned cats discovered in Ill. home, brings total to 94

A case of cat hoarding discovered last week at a western Illinois home is worse than authorities initially believed.

Warren County officials last week found 60 cats inside the dilapidated Monmouth home, whose occupants had been evicted Sept. 12.

But The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reported Friday that animal control officers have since found and rescued more cats, bringing the total to 94.

In the home's freezer, authorities found the carcasses of 30 cats and several ferrets.

The whereabouts of the home's former occupants is unknown.

Warren County Animal Control Officer John Livingston says nearly 40 of the rescued cats have been adopted.
