Demolition could begin by the end of the year to make way for a new Schnucks grocery at Washington Square Mall.
Gene Hahn, who managers the property, says construction could then begin in three to four months.
The new Schnucks will replace the old merchants space at Washington Sq. Mall.
Schnucks CEO, Scott Schnuck, made the announcement to 14 News on Thursday night.
Businesses nearby say they are excited about the move.
"I'm going to miss Schnucks being right across the street from us, but I'm also going to like the idea that Schnucks is going to make it a bigger store," said Jayson Munoz, the owner of Kanpai, which is across the street from Schnucks on Green River Rd. and Washington Ave.
Another new store will be built at Boonville-New Harmony Rd and U.S. 41 near Darmstadt.
Schnuck says the $15-million investment will also include renovations to Schnucks East, North, and North Green River Rd.
