Man facing charges after overnight hit and run in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A man is facing charges after a hit and run overnight in Carbondale that left three people injured.

Jamonta O. McKnight was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash and failure to exercise due care. McKnight was taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Police say around 2:40 a.m. Friday officers were on foot patrol when they saw a blue Chevrolet Tahoe strike three pedestrians that were seated on the curb in the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue.

Officers say the the McKnight hit the pedestrians’ legs with the passenger side tires.

McKnight then continued to drive northbound and officers eventually stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of South Illinois Avenue.

Police identified the driver as McKnight.

The victims were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
