A few dozen Indianapolis police squad cars have escorted a vehicle carrying the body of slain Officer Rod Bradway from a hospital to the coroner's office.

Police Chief Rick Hite is asking the public for prayers for the Bradway's family after he was fatally shot early Friday during a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex.

Investigators say Bradway forced his way into an apartment after hearing a woman scream for help and was shot.

Bradway was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital where he died a short time later.

The suspect was killed during an exchange of gunfire.

Police say the woman wasn't hurt.
The police department says 41-year-old Bradway was a five-year veteran of the force.
He was married with two teenage children and was a native of the northern Indiana town of Nappanee.

The department says Bradway was a highly decorated officer who had received its Medal of Bravery.
