LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Cats and Cards are ready to face each other for the annual Governor's Cup. Kickoff is at noon Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium, but some fans started their game preparations hours or even days early.
Fans were already tailgating in the parking lots surrounding Commonwealth Stadium by midday Friday.
"We have a party every Friday night we cook for each other," one told us, "and then in the mornings we get up and we just have a big breakfast and we get ready for the game.
At one Louisville business they've been ready for the game since Monday. AcuDent off Bardstown Road has been asking Cards and Cats fans to come by, donate to Dare To Care and then take a swing at the opposing team's colors on this beat up old car.
"We've actually been planning it for several months," said Stephanie Clouser, "(The owner) knew he wanted to do it before UofL and UK to get people excited about the game.'
Clouser was not hiding her bias, wearing a UofL Final Four t-shirt, but she says cards fans appeared to have a bit of an edge in the informal poll.
"The UK side has seen a few more beatings so the UofL fans have won this time I think," said Clouser. "We hope that UofL can continue that momentum going into this weekend.
A reminder for fans traveling from Louisville to Lexington: there's a construction project on U.S. 60, the Versailles exit. It's going to force traffic down to one lane in each direction.
