Lane Goodwin remembered with series of cancer awareness events

Posted: Updated:

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month and the Thumbs Up For Lane Goodwin Foundation is sponsoring a series of events.

Friday, a golf scramble was held at the Player's Club Of Henderson. It's part of a series of events this month to raise both money and awareness for childhood cancers.

It's a mission close to the Goodwin family.

The Thumbs Up For Lane Goodwin Foundation is sponsoring all the Tri-State Goes Gold For Kids events this month.

Friday, organizers say 13 teams of four teed off at the Player's Club in support.

14 News spoke with a family friend and family member of Lane's who say they wouldn't miss it for the world.

"I mean, it took a part of my heart when all this was going on, so I try to support it in any way I can," said Lori Hite, Goodwin Family Friend.

"Lane always cared about other people more than he did himself," said Alex Watkins, Lane Goodwin's Uncle. "And that's what his mother promised him, I promised him. That we'd never stop trying, what we can do. We may only impact this much but we can, you know," he said.

Coming up Saturday in Owensboro, there's a 5k run/walk for this same cause and organizers say you can still register.

Find out how to do that here.
