Historical Cemetery Tour in Henderson County - Tri-State News, Weather & Sports

Henderson County is bringing history back to life

History will be" brought to life" for the third annual Fernwood Cemetery guided walking tour, hosted by the Henderson Community Depot.

"Henderson is deep in history," Donna Spencer, Depot Events Coordinator said.

Fernwood Cemetery moved to its 40-acre lot on Madison Street in 1853 due to overcrowding at its original location on the corner of 4th St and Elm St. Most of the inhabitants of the former location, the early settlers of Henderson, also moved to the new cemetery location.

The historical tour will guide guests through the oldest cemetery in Henderson and have actors from the Henderson Community Theatre portraying the interesting historical citizens of Henderson.

"It's a respectful but fun way to know about the people that came before us," Spencer said.

The tour will begin at 3 p.m. on Sept. 14 and last roughly an hour with easy level walking paths and will be handicap accessible. For information about how to purchase tickets, call 270-830-9707
