PERRY CO., IN (WFIE) -

Big plans have been made for the riverfront in Tell City. A new apartment building is now on the drawing board.

City council in Tell City has approved proposed construction of a brand new mixed use building here on a government-owned lot between Franklin and Humboldt Streets, just off of Seventh.

Tell City Mayor Barbara Ewing says the new building will feature nearly 50 new apartment units and plenty of retail space.

It's a three-story structure called Riverpointe. There will be apartments and retail space on the bottom floor, 32 senior-living apartments on the second floor, and several apartments on the top floor, which are open to anyone.

Following the completion of the Tell City Visitor's Center and a medical center, the building would be the third step in revitalizing Tell City's Seventh Street and Riverfront area.

"We've received several phone calls from citizens who are already wanting to put their name on a waiting list. The project is not even yet reality. So, we're excited about the possibility this project brings to Tell City," Mayor Ewing said.

The town is working with private investors, as well as the State of Indiana, to come up with a way to fund this proposed project.

If all goes well, Mayor Ewing says construction could get underway by the early part of 2014.
