A stagehands union fined $11,500 by a state agency following the deadly Indiana State Fair stage rigging collapse has reached a settlement with the state absolving it of those penalties.
The settlement agreement was signed Monday by officials for Indiana's labor department and the union.
The agreement sets aside the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration's order fining the union for safety violations arising from the August 2011 stage collapse that killed seven people.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 30 had appealed IOSHA's order and penalties.
Under the agreement, the union must add fall protection and hazard identification training for its current members and add that training to its apprenticeship program.
State Labor Commissioner Sean Keefer says the agreement creates a positive outcome for everyone involved.
