Fire crews in Henderson County have returned to their stations, after battling a field fire well into the evening Monday.

Crews had to shut down Highway 136 near Klondike Road so they could spray the fields from the roadway. Authorities also block Highway 136 W. at Burbank Road.

Officials say the fire was in a marshy area and that makes it difficult to fight.

There no structures were threatened by the fire. Several crews responded to the scene to help.

The plume of smoke was also visible on 14 Dual Doppler. The smoke extended across the Ohio River and Diamond Island all the way up to Indiana State Road 62.

The 14 News weather team says Doppler radar can be useful in detecting not only showers and thunderstorms, but also things like smoke and insect swarms.
