The Daviess County Sheriff's Office confirms one person was killed in an accident at a local race track.

Deputies said it happened just before 10 p.m. Sunday night at Windy Hollow Speedway, located at 3741 Windy Hollow Road.

Several witnesses at the race told deputies that one car may have stuck another car during a turn, causing it to crash into the track wall. The car then slammed into a utility pole before striking several spectators near the pit area of the track.

Three people were hurt and taken to the hospital for treatment. Deputies say one of those people died of their injuries at the hospital.

Authorities have not yet released the names of those hurt in the wreck.

We will pass along new information as soon as it is released.
