HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -
A Hopkins County man has died from complications of the West Nile virus.

Our media partner, the Madisonville Messenger, reports the man was sent to the hospital last week with symptoms and died Thursday afternoon.

His name has not been released.

It's believed this is Kentucky's first human case of West Nile virus this year.

There are currently no medications to treat or vaccines to prevent infection.

Health officials say the best way to prevent contracting the disease is by avoid being outside from dusk till dawn.

The city of Madisonville is expected to be treated for mosquitoes Monday night and Tuesday morning.
