Hoosier lawmakers weigh in on Syria crisis

INDIANA (WFIE) -

Some Hoosier lawmakers are speaking out about U.S. military involvement in Syria.

Republican U.S. Senator Dan Coats says Obama's decision to set a "red line" over the use of chemical weapons while not having a long-term strategy in place has left the U.S. without any good options.

On the other side of the aisle, Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly spoke to reporters during a Labor Day parade Monday in South Bend. The senator condemned the use of chemical weapons and says he wants to find the best possible solution, but it appears he has made no final decision.

"We're going to continue to obtain as much information as possible, review everything that is going on. Syria's conduct is completely outside the bounds of international behavior. We're trying to find out the best solutions," Donnelly said.

A vote could come next week, but its unclear if lawmakers will approve the president's plan when all members return from recess.
