A man on a bicycle from Evansville was killed Saturday morning in an accident.

Vanderburgh County Sgt. Matt Corns tells 14 News that a bicyclist, 56-year-old John Bohls, and an SUV collided at the intersection of N. St. Joseph Ave and Adler Rd around 10:30 Saturday morning.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office states Bohls was unresponsive at the scene and was later pronounced dead by the Coroner.

Sgt. Corn says the driver of the SUV, 23-year-old Paige Elpers, was traveling south on N. St. Joe Ave, and Bohls was heading west toward her on Adler Rd.

Corn says that Elpers said she thought Bohls would stop at the stop sign and when he didn't, she couldn't avoid him.

Elpers was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"She had some superficial injuries," said Sgt. Corn. "She had a possible head injury. She is probably not going to be admitted but they are keeping her for observation just for now doing some cat scans and tests on her."

Corn says Bohls had a helmet with him at the time of the accident, but it is unclear whether he was actually wearing it.

Bohls was the President of Vectren Energy Marketing in Evansville.
