ISU enrollment reaches highest level since 1972

Indiana State University officials say the western Indiana school's fall enrollment has reached its highest level in more than 40 years.

School officials say returning students combined with record graduate college enrollment and another large freshmen class to boost the Terre Haute campus' fall enrollment to 12,448.

That's the highest since 1972, when slightly more than 13,000 students were enrolled at ISU.

The Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1dpeS3a ) the school's incoming class of 2,661 new freshmen includes its largest honors class ever, with 306 students. Total enrollment in the University Honors Program also is a record at 964 students.

More than half of all incoming freshmen received the university's Laptop Award, which requires a minimum 3.0 grade-point average.
