Attendance at Mesker Park Zoo has been promising this summer. Officials say they had their best July in about four years.
Now residents are asking for longer hours and they're listening!
Typically, last admittance is 4 p.m., but now on Tuesdays you can get in until 7 p.m. and explore the grounds until 8.
The zoo has dubbed it Twilight Tuesdays.
14 News caught up with Marketing Director Abigail Adler, who says the public asked for extended hours at night. She says it's great for those who work full-time or want to take their kids after school. So, new this year and this month, they're testing it out and opening three hours later each Tuesday.
Adler says it's been really popular and that you'll actually see some different behavior from the animals.
"Relaxing after work, go for a nice walk, we have beautiful grounds here, rolling hills," said Adler. "See the animals, kind of how they act when the sun starts to go down and believe it or not, you will see some different personalities and different things come out in the evening," she said.
Twilight Tuesdays will continue through the month of September. Then zoo officials will look at attendance numbers to see if it's cost effective.
As of right now, Adler says it's too soon to tell if Twilight Tuesdays are here to stay.
