You can get your hands on a free radon testing kit.
In cooperation with the Indiana State Department of Health and the American Lung Association the Vanderburgh County Health Department is offering free radon testing for homes in Vanderburgh County.
Radon is a cancer-causing, radioactive gas that seeps into homes from the soil.
You cannot see, smell or taste radon, but the Surgeon General has warned that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today.
Some scientific studies on exposure risk indicate that children may be more sensitive to radon.
Two types of air testing kits as well as water testing kits are available.
You may pick up a kit at the Traveling City Hall meeting on Wednesday. The meeting runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at McGary Middle School on 1535 S. Joyce Ave.
You can also pick one up at the Environmental Health office, room 303 at the Vanderburgh County Health Department, 420 Mulberry Street (the old Mulberry Center next to Select Hospital).
