A Henderson County judge denied Demetrius Compton's request for a new attorney Monday. The judge said he can't "pick and chose" who he can have a public defender.
Compton is charged with the murder of Brystal Chambers, the young Henderson mother found dead in her apartment in June 2011. He plead not guilty to the charges.
Henderson Police say Chambers' cause of death was strangulation. According to Compton's arrest warrant, Chambers, who lived with Compton and their son, was romantically involved with another man.
The warrant also states family members reported Compton being physically abusive to Chambers in the past.
Compton appeared in front of a judge for the first time in several months on Monday. His trial is slated to start September 4th.
