A registered sex offender in Evansville is charged with sexual battery.

According to the affidavit from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office, on Monday August 19, deputies were called to Woodcreek Inn and Suites on Old Business 41 around 10 p.m.

Deputies say a woman there told them she had been sexually assaulted by 33-year-old Jeffrey Lucas.

She told deputies that Lucas had tried to convince her to come to his room and have sex with him, but she refused which enraged Lucas. She said Lucas then grabbed her chest, still trying to get her to have sex. The woman says she was able to push away from Lucas and get away. Lucas then went back to his room.

Deputies say the account of the incident from other people matched up with the victim's story.

When deputies went to Lucas's room, they say he answered the door in tears, denying he had assaulted the woman.

According to the affidavit, the Sheriff's Office says Lucas was the one who made the original call, telling dispatchers a woman had hit him and was trying to get her boyfriend to "beat him up."

Lucas was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail. He is being held on a $3,000 bond.

Authorities say back in 2006, Lucas was charged with molesting a three-year-old girl and is a lifetime registered sex offender.
