Dubois County is celebrating the lowest unemployment rate of any county in the state, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
Recently, the department announced Dubois County has a jobless rate of just 5.7%. That rate was determined by numbers collected last month.
Dubois County edged out Hamilton County, Indiana by a mere .2% to take the top spot. Statewide, the jobless rate was 8.4% in July.
Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz credits a combination of local value and a workforce who is willing to adapt with the county's exceptional employment rate.
"We have had an employment sector that has adapted with the times. Whether that be international markets, whether that be new technology, this is not your father's way to make wood products or to produce engines or for Jasper Rubber," Mayor Seitz said. "We really are blessed by private manufacturers, by private logistics firms, by companies pushing to succeed and getting us known throughout the world."
Mayor Seitz says he's obviously pleased with the county's low unemployment rate, but he says Dubois County can always do better.
