Downtown Mount Vernon will look a little different in coming months.
The mayor says more and more people are buying up real estate, and says he's taking more calls than ever before.
A new business, or rather, two with the same owners will be moving in at the corner of Second and Main Street downtown.
Smokey and Brenda Rainey, a husband and wife team, are converting a former bar into a drop off dry cleaners.
Right next to it they will put in a 50's style cafe. They will sell soups sandwiches and homemade fudge from 3 Chicks Fudgery.
But that's not all.
Mount Vernon's mayor says at least two other buildings are also being renovated just a few blocks away.
One will be an ice cream shop, and the mayor tells us it's just the start of what's to come.
"That's what is really exciting, that we are getting calls now. Or people just stopping by and coming into the office. In the last month, month and a half, I've had eight different individuals come in and express an interest in locating Downtown Mount Vernon and two of them have already started," says Mayor John Tucker.
There is still no word on which retail shops will be going in at The Landing, but 14 News will keep up updated on any developments.
