More and more people are buying up real estate in Downtown Mount Vernon.
The mayor is calling it a revitalization, saying he's gotten more calls about it than ever before.
On the corner of Second and Main Street in Mount Vernon you'll find a building that used to be a bar.
Now a local husband and wife team are fixing it up and they're taking it in a different direction.
Smokey and Brenda Rainey are putting a dry cleaners in one side of the building.
It could open as soon as mid-September, and will be a drop-off site for Don's Claytons Cleaners.
Smokey says they were looking for a central location to serve customers.
A seamstress will also be on hand as needed.
Smokey tells 14 News it's really for their son Robert, who has a learning disability.
The business will be named Bob's Laundry in his honor.
"We thought we'd find a business that he could do and learn. He's real good with repetitious work. So we thought we would set him up in business here and see how it goes. He's got an awesome personality and I think he'll do well," says Rainey.
Once that's open, they'll begin working on the second half of the space.
Smokey and Brenda want to convert it into a 50's style cafe with soups and sandwiches.
