Evansville City Council members met to discuss next year's budget, and one item that created a lot of conversation- Roberts Park.
On Tuesday, the Department of Parks and Recreation discussed proposed budget plans. One of the big items on the list was the new park.
The proposed budget for the park right now for next year is $1.5 million.
That's just for phase one of the construction, which includes new roads, a second entrance, lighting, tree planting, parking, and other things related to infrastructure.
The park board intends to pay for the park over several years, which is why next year's budget only covers the beginning stages. Other additions, like swing sets for kids, will come after that.
Denise Johnson of the park board says they're willing to wait five to ten years for funding, as long as the money will cover everything they've planned.
City council will continue budget hearings this week. Wednesday night with be discussion on the police budget.
