A jury has been selected in the trial of one of the men accused in a Vanderburgh County home invasion that happened in February of 2012.

Nalakeio Bennett rejected a plea deal last week and will now be on trial.

"I'm just praying and hoping everything turns out for the best for him, because basically, I don't see the best," Bennett's grandmother, Barbara Rogers, said.

Bennett's grandmother isn't optimistic for her grandson. Bennett is on trial charged with burglary resulting in bodily injury, criminal confinement, and theft.

"It's too much staked against him, so I'm just praying that the Lord will work it all out for him," Rogers said.

Bennett is one of for men accused of breaking into Ira Beumer's house in February of 2012. Police say Beumer chased the men in his truck after the incident and crashed into their car, killing one of the suspects, Antuan Jenkins.

Bennett's aunt, Kizzie Bennett, was at jury selection on Monday morning.

"These people are not his peers. They are my age, they're not his age. It isn't his peers," Kizzie said.

As for Bennett's grandmother, she wishes things would've gone a little differently for her grandson.

"My grandson is going to do a lot of time, and his life is gone down the drain for nothing when he could've just called to come home another way besides getting involved with the guys he was with," Rogers said.

Bennett's family says they are very nervous for him. His trial begins on Tuesday.

As for Beumer, his trial is slated to begin on November 4. He was indicted for murder, attempted murder, and aggravated batter.
