FBI, U.S. Marshals make arrest at Elberfeld post office

An unexpected start to a day in a small Warrick County community.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals were in Elberfeld Friday morning to make an arrest.

Residents say it happened at the town's post office.

The excitement happened fairly early Friday morning around 8:00.

Many details of the arrest and investigation are being kept under wraps.

"Quite unusual in our town," says Scott Dowers. "Elberfeld's a pretty quiet town."

Town Board President Scott Doweers soon found out that the people parked behind the fire department knew what they were looking for.

"By that time they pulled on bulletproof vests," says Scott. "One was marked U.S. Marshal, one of them was marked FBI and the other one just said police on it."

From there, Scott says the crew headed down the street and into the post office.

"I was quite surprised," says Scott. "I had no clue what they would be up to."

The FBI confirms an arrest was made in Elberfeld by U.S. Marshals, as part of an FBI investigation, but won't say who was taken into custody, or why.

The U.S. Postal Service won't budge either.

That leaves Scott and others in the small town waiting for answers.

The U.S.P.S says the Elberfeld Post Office opened two hours late on Friday.
