Henderson EMA prepares for chemical explosion

Is Henderson ready to respond to a large scale disaster?

Emergency Management Agencies will find out Thursday morning, as they respond to a practice scenario.

The scenario involves a large scale chemical explosion with hazardous materials.

Emergency agencies will react to several different potential outcomes.

For example, what if there have to be mass evacuations?

How would thousands of residents be moved out, and where would the be moved to?

Are the city and county ready to arrange mass transportation and sheltering?

Up to 15 different city and county agencies would have to come together to respond to a situation like this, so this is good practice.

The Henderson EMA Director tells 14 News they chose this scenario, because it is realistic.

There are several plants around Henderson where a potential incident like this could happen.

The exercise will take place at the Henderson EMA building from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today.
