Not only was Wednesday the first day of classes for EVSC, it was also the 'Million Father March' day and Evansville is one of more than 800 US cities that participated.
Its goal is to encourage dads to take their kids to school.
Organizers say a father's involvement is one of the best ways to improve a child's performance.
There were lots of dads on hand when 14 News stopped by Lincoln Elementary this morning.
We caught up with one who says he came out because he couldn't get involved in other ways.
"Her mom did all of the enrolling," said Chris Evans. "This is her first year in school. Whenever we were enrolling her I was working like 90 hour weeks so I didn't get to do that part," he said.
The event's sponsored by The Black Star Project and the Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African-American Males.
Across the country, organizers estimate more than a million fathers participated.
