You could soon be able to enjoy a nice dinner outside in Henderson.
Henderson City Commission considered allowing sidewalk dining downtown at their meeting Tuesday night.
If you've been to Commonwealth Kitchen and Bar, one of Henderson's newest restaurants, you may have noticed it's crowded. That's one of the reasons why its owner Jayson Munoz says he would love to see some sidewalk seating.
Henderson Mayor Steve Austin says the option to eat outside would apply only to the downtown district, and says it will help develop that area.
According to the ordinance, outdoor dining would be available until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Restaurants will have to follow several guidelines and also be responsible to keep the sidewalk area clean.
Mayor Austin says he thinks visitors will enjoy the added option.
"It's just another little piece of getting it together. We have a lot of folks now coming from Evansville and Union and Webster Counties and surrounding areas to eat, and I think it just adds another little piece to our downtown," says the mayor.
Tuesday was the first reading of the ordnance. The second reading will be in two weeks. If it gets approved, it will go immediately into effect.
