It was back to school for thousands of EVSC students Wednesday morning, and some lucky ones got to ride the bus with a special guest.
EVSC Superintendent Dr. David Smith rode the bus to Cynthia Heights with a lively bunch of kids.
It's a tradition that goes back 30 years.
He says he enjoys the time with the kids, because there's just something special about the first day of class.
"I do it because the range of emotions the first day of school are unlike any other day. You know there are some folks that are naturally nervous and we're not just talking kids but teachers, parents, principles, superintendents. And it's just filled with excitement for new beginnings, so it's a great place to start the school year, on a school bus," he says.
Almost 23,000 students are enrolled in the EVSC program this year.
