Drive safe as kids head back to school

Summer comes to an end for thousands of kids in Evansville on Wednesday. EVSC students report back to class in the morning.

The Evansville Police Department wants to remind drivers that the bus stops and cross walks will be busy.

"The flashing lights will be going, advising motorists that the speed limit is 20 in that area. The crossing guards will be out. We're also going to have officers patrolling the area to ensure that it's a safe environment for the kids," EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum said.

The EPD says those patrols in school zones will be happening for the first few weeks of school.

Because there is construction going on near some schools, police suggest planning ahead and giving yourself a little extra time to get where you need to be.
