Name released in deadly house explosion in Du Quoin

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) -

According to Du Quoin, Illinois police, a house exploded on Lake Street sometime before 10 a.m. Sunday morning. EMA Director David Searby says one person has died as a result of the explosion.

The person killed was 83-year-old Harold A. Pundsack of Du Quoin. 

Police had several blocks around the area blocked off near the American Legion Hall.

There is still no word from authorities on the cause of the explosion but an investigation is underway.

It is not clear the exact number of homes that suffered damage right now.

The American Red Cross and emergency responders are working to find a place to stay for those displaced.

There was a lot of debris in the area, even some debris blocks from the home.

One woman tells Heartland News says she heard the blast seven miles away.
