UE students headed to Dominican Republic for a good cause

Posted: Updated:

15 students and four faculty members from the University of Evansville are leaving soon for the Dominican Republic.

The group leaves on Tuesday and are spending two weeks in the Caribbean nation helping the nonprofit organization, Go Ministries.

They'll work designing and planning a new medical facility that's set to open next summer.

"The big difference that they're going to experience is the fact that they can make an impact. One person can make an impact there in the Dominican," said Dr. John Layer, who is University of Evansville's Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

"I would hope it would give me a new perspective, and I wouldn't expect anything less of it in that regard. Given that we're going to be down there for two weeks, I think that's going to provide us a lot of time to reflect on what kind of impact we're going to leave behind," UE student Ryan Bassemier said.

14 News will let you know how the trip went once they return.
