Pair arrested after low speed chase and foot pursuit

Two men are arrested after a low speed car chase and foot chase with Evansville Police.

Police say it began as a traffic stop on Hwy 41 and Bellemeade.

Officers say after observing that the front passenger, 20-year-old Dana Smith, of a car driven by 22-year-old Sean Shelby was not wearing a seatbelt and tried to pull the car over.

Police say the suspect's car never stopped, but continued down Bellemeade at a low speed. After driving several blocks, Shelby pulled over. He stopped briefly, but then pulled away from the officer and continued driving.

After several blocks, police say Shelby slowed again and Smith got out of the car while it was still moving and ran away. Shelby then stopped the car and also ran.

Both suspects were arrested after a short foot chase with officers. 

Police say Smith tried to get rid of a gun by tossing is under a car while he was running. It was recovered by officers.

Shelby faces charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Driving Without a License. 

Smith faces charges of Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit with a Prior Conviction, Resisting Law Enforcement, and a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.
