Black bear reportedly spotted in Daviess County

There's apparently a black bear on the loose in Daviess County.

Five people say they've seen it, and authorities have been trying to track it down most of the day on Friday.

Imagine driving down the highway and seeing a  bear run out in front of your vehicle that's exactly what happened to two motorist this afternoon.

The Daviess County Sheriff's Office says two motorist driving down the Natcher called 911 and said they saw a bear.

A woman who lives on Sugar Grove Church Road in Masonville called 911 a short time later and reported she saw a bear run across her yard, but the sheriff's office did not find any tracks in her yard.

The Daviess County Sheriff's Office and wildlife officials from Hartford spent the afternoon looking for the bear, but so far have not been able to find it.

Officials found what appears to be bear tracks in a ditch on Red Hill Maxwell Road. The Daviess County Sheriff's Office put plaster moldings inside the tracks.

Wildlife officials say they believe the bear is a young male from Tennessee that is lost. Witnesses who saw the bear said it was quite a shock.

"First off it really startled me because I actually grew up in this house and I have never seen anything like that before. We have deer and turkey, but we never saw a bear to say the least," says Renee Blair.

Wildlife officials say they don't believe the bear is any danger to the public.
