The Daviess County Sheriff's Office says they have received several calls about black bear.

Daviess County Dispatch says the calls are coming from the Red Hil/Maxwell Road area off US 231 just south of Masonville.

At least three people have said they saw the bear. Two calls came back to back from people on the Natcher near mile marker 69.

One woman from Sugar Grove Church road said she saw it run through her yard. Deputies didn't find any tracks near her yard, but they found a "slide mark" nearby.

Two men nearby said they saw the bear too.

Deputies did find what they believe to be bear tracks in a ditch near Maxwell Road.

Fish and wildlife representatives from Hartford have come out. They say the bear most likely came from Tennessee and is a young male.

Jerry Handley, a wildlife biologist, says the bear is probably lost and no threat to people.
