Head down to Owensboro's riverfront tonight for a celebration

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - Owensboro's ready to celebrate its recent All-America City Award with a special event tonight down along the riverfront.

Smothers Park will be anything but quiet later today.

The All-America City Celebration's taking place with the weekly Friday After 5.

Tonight's festivities spotlight Owensboro's award that it received last month in Denver.

Everything begins around 6:25 p.m. with some comments from Mayor Ron Payne.

After that, officials say the signature fountains will shoot to new heights, possibly 50 to 60 feet in the air.

There will also be free ice cream and T-shirts, thanks to the All-America City Celebration Caravan.

This event was canceled on the Fourth of July due to the threat of rain.

Just yesterday, officials also announced a new date for the Fourth of July fireworks.

They'll take place on Saturday, November 9th in conjunction with the city's Veterans Day celebration.

Mayor Payne says having the fireworks then will help make the event even bigger and better.

All of tonight's events are free and everyone is welcome to come celebrate the city's honor.
