Hakeem Smith's name has been added to another preseason watch list.
The Louisville senior safety is being considered for the Bronco Nagurski Award that goes to the nation's defensive player of the year. Smith is among 81 nominated in a vote announced Thursday by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.
Smith, a three-time All-Big East Conference selection, aims to become the first Cardinal to win the Nagurski award since defensive end Elvis Dumervil (2005), who led the nation with 20 sacks.
On Monday, Smith and Cardinals junior safety Calvin Pryor were named to the watch list for the Bednarik Award, which also goes to nation's top defensive player.
