IN Gov. Pence visits Evansville on Monday

Posted: Updated:

Indiana Governor Mike Pence came to Evansville Monday night to announce his recommendation for the state's Republican Party State Chairman.

Pence is endorsing former State Treasurer and current State Auditor Tim Berry. Pence says he knew exactly what he was looking for in a candidate.

"In looking for a person to nominate to our party as the next State Republican Chairman, I was looking for someone who had demonstrated leadership and integrity, understood the importance of being involved in the political process, but also was someone who understood the strength of the Republican Party all over the state," Governor Pence said.

Pence says if Republican leaders accept his recommendation, Berry will step down as state auditor and another individual will fill that role.

He says so far, a number of people have expressed interest in the position should it become open.
