The longtime doctor for the Indiana University men's basketball team is in Russia overseeing a program on cardiovascular health for athletes at the World University Games.

Dr. Larry Rink is in Kazan, Russia, along with IU basketball players Will Sheehey and Yogi Ferrell for the games that run through July 17.

Rink supervises all the medical care, doping control and educational efforts at the event as president of the International University Sports Medical Commission.

Rink tells The Herald-Times that the event will have the largest cardiology screening in the world.

All the athletes will electrocardiogram and other tests while also completing a 20-point health questionnaire.

The program aims to help athletes recognize and understand cardiovascular health.
