Two women arrested in alleged Evansville police officer assault

Two women are in jail accused of hurting an Evansville police officer.

It happened on Thursday night near the intersection of Southeast Second and Chestnut.

According to a police report, Officer Michael Knight was telling a crowd of people in the road to move along when he was attacked by the group.

Two suspects were caught and the rest ran away.

19-year-old Rakeyoan Lavan Carter and 18-year-old Lamiea Fredrie Gilbert face several charges including battery of a law enforcement officer with injury.

According to an affidavit Officer Knight has scrapes and bruises from being punched in the face and head.

    Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says a group met with a project consultant and some think Roberts Park might be the perfect location. There's plenty of space and with other sporting facilities near the site, could be used to attract out of town swimming tournaments.
