ShrinersFest has successful 4th of July

Posted: Updated:

Fireworks lit up the sky in Downtown Evansville as the Tri-State celebrated Independence Day.

The weather held off in Evansville while the first Twilight air show wowed the crowd and the fireworks were the perfect finale to a busy day at ShrinersFest.

An estimated 30,000 people packed the river banks to see the show. Some setup their front row seats early in the afternoon.

Just before the fireworks, Team Aero Dynamics performed an aerobatic routine called Formation Sensation in the Sky. The team tells 14 News that the performance was just a test of what the team will showcase on Friday and Sunday.

The barge then moved in a little closer and those fireworks dazzled the crowd and that grand finale was not one to disappoint. The crowd tells us the sneak peek of the air show made their night.

"The planes were really awesome," says Karen Gatewood. "We hadn't planned on seeing the planes and they were just awesome."

The ShrinersFest continues on Friday. Food and rides start at 9 A.M. and if you missed the air show on Thursday, you can catch it again on Friday at 8:30.

Happy 4th of July from 14 News!
