There will not be a fireworks show along the Mt. Vernon Riverfront on Thursday because of a scheduling issue. Instead, the fireworks show is next week.
Mt. Vernon really has two celebrations going on, the first one will not involve fireworks, those will come into play on Tuesday night.
There will be live jazz music along the riverfront on Thursday. The Mt Vernon Lions Club has been running the fireworks show for the past 20-some years, usually on July 3.
But this year, Acting President, Robert Beste, tells 14 News that the person who usually does the fireworks didn't get a license so they had to contract the job out.
Beste says Tuesday was the night that worked out schedule-wise and that the show will be the same quality as years past and will last about 30-minutes.
"Well, we just want them to have the fireworks this year and it didn't work out on the 3rd, so we thought, 'Well, we'll have it whatever day we can have it,'" says Beste.
Thursday night's Jazz in the Parks event will be along the riverfront from 7:00-9:00 P.M..
