POSEY CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Posey County Sheriff's Department is investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Mount Vernon man.

On Wednesday around 9:00 p.m., Posey County Sheriff's Deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched to St. Philips Road just north of the Bohleber Road intersection.

Officials say when deputies got to the scene they found a 1991 Red Chevrolet S-10 truck had left the roadway and crashed into a tree.  The driver was the only occupant and had to be removed from the truck by rescue workers.

The driver, 33-year-old Zachary Robert Lear, of Mount Vernon, was pronounced dead at the scene by Posey County Coroner Jay Price.

Authorities say their preliminary investigation found that Lear was not wearing a seat belt, and deputies believe the speed of the vehicle was a contributing factor in the cause of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
