New ordinance could make Downtown Jasper a 'poop-free zone' - 14 News, WFIE, Evansville, Henderson, Owensboro

What can be done about this crap at city hall?

Commissioners in Dubois County may consider a new ordinance to make Downtown Jasper a 'poop-free zone.'

Commissioner Doug Uebelhor says letters written to city hall mentioned how a Huntingburg resident is allowing her puppy to do her business on the courthouse lawn. That resident works at a business in Downtown Jasper, where pets are allowed.

While the owner says she always cleans up after her dog, Snickers, that hasn't stopped the complaints.

At Monday's county commissioner's meeting, the dog owner, Janalyn Oster, came up with the ordinance proposal herself.

"We're the ones over there the most. There are other dogs that go over there through the day and at night, but I went before the commissioners and said, 'Okay, we need to come up with at least a county ordinance, so it's fair for all. Don't just single out one dog,'" Oster said.

Commissioner Uebelhor says this issue will be reviewed again at the next bi-monthly meeting.
